Joomla htaccess re-write
Ok so many people that use Joomla constantly ask the same questions. One of these common questions is " how do I get the index.php file at the end of my domain name to disappear"? This would mean that those people that want this, have a component installed that will automatically rewrite their urls from index.php?com_content=id&.......etc etc to something like /mypage.html.
Great! so what about duplicate content? by this i mean having mydomain.com as your home page and mydomain.com/index.php also as your home page. This is just how it is, go ahead test your site if you don't believe me.
So what we want to do is get rid of mydomain.com/index.php ( NOTE: this will only work is all your urls have been converted by a component like 404sef or Artio JomSef}
All you need to do to get this working is to add the following to your htaccess files at the very top, many people just add this at the bottom and so it does not work.
Once you have added the code (make sure you replace mydomain.com with your own) save the .htaccess file and now give it a try. Go to mydomain.com/index.php and you will now go straight mydomain.com no more duplicate content and as far as the search engines are concerned mydomain.com is the only home page you have. Happy days!
