what is a blog? do I need one?

The simple answer to this is YES! A blog is an instant publishing tool for you to add fresh content to. If you are spending time trying to make the perfect product on your website then forget it, your product is fine just leave it be where it is.

BUT what you do want to do, is market your product, and this is where your blog will come in. Your goal is to use your blog or to promote your product and online store to achieve better rankings for your product or service.

Talk about your product, let people know everything there is to know about it, add a link from your blog directly to the product page on your website. Don't forget that your link from your blog should be the product name, and not just something like "click here" which is a complete waist of a good product link. Promote your hot deals and discount coupons, tell the world about any new products you may have added to your online store, let people know what you are doing as a company and how they can buy your products and contact you. Re-write in your own words any announcements from your wholesaler and industry news.

One of the most important features of your blog will be customer interaction. No matter what you are selling there are people out there looking for a solution. Say for example you are selling mobile phones, and your make a post in your blog about how to fix a phone, or where they can take it to be fixed, how to clean their phone and other tips and tricks. By doing this your are giving your potential customers a sense that you care about your products and customers. They will come back for more!

Because many blogs such as wordpress, blogger etc allow you to let your visitors post comments on your blog posts, this will be a great opportunity for you to use your blog to answer your customer questions and know what they are looking for. Look at your website frequently and see which ones are the most popular, then write a blog post or FAQ about that search term. Perhaps one of your key phrases or keywords is about mobile phone batteries, write a post on your blog on how to care for your mobile phone battery and make it last longer, then at the end of your blog post you could provide a link to your website for people to buy a new battery.

Simple but effective blog writing is will make a big difference to your store sales and website traffic. Remember to highlight any new products or special offers in your blog to reflect what is going on on your e-commerce website. If you can not be bothered to put a little effort in once or twice a week then what do you expect to get in return. I always say to my clients what you put in you will get back, it is like raising a child it takes years of love and care and eventually you will see the rewards for all your hard work.
